Join the choir

We always welcome new members. If you are interested in joining us, then we would love you to come along for a couple of free 'taster' sessions to try us out.

Rehearsals are held at 7.30-9.30 pm on Thursday evenings at the Church on Gracious Street. We hold free open rehearsals for the first two sessions at the start of a term - but you can come along at any time, just contact us through the website. A warm welcome awaits!

Interested in singing with us? Here are some answers to some questions you may ask.

Q: I'm worried about auditions - do I have to have one? A: No - we are a non-auditioning choir. All you need to do is to be able to sing in tune and have bags of enthusiasm!

Q: I can't read music - does it matter? A: Although being able to read music helps, many of our members started without being able to - reading the scores is something you pick up with practice. There's always someone with experience near-by who can guide you.

Q: How much will it cost me? A: Nothing to begin with - you can give us a go for 2 weeks to see if you like us - if you do, then subs are £70 for the whole year due September (this can be split into two payments if desired, half due in September and then the second half in January) or £130 for couples for the whole year (again this can be split as before). These subs can be paid by monthly instalments too at either £6 per month per adult, or £11 per couple. The treasurer will be able to help set up the standing order if this is your prefered method of payment. Under 18? Then you don't pay a thing!

Q: I'm worried that I don't know anyone. A: Don't worry - you soon will! We are a friendly, sociable bunch and you'll be made to feel most welcome. Just come along and give it a go.

Q:  What do you wear at concert?  For the choral concerts women wear a black top and black trousers or a skirt. Blue choir scarves are provided.  Men wear a dress suit, white shirt and black bow tie.  At the summer concert we wear colourful tops and black trousers / skirts.  You can also purchase a choir 'fleecie' and/or a choir T-shirt to wear at community events.
